What is being compared?

Both can provide long-chain omega-3s. Algae products can suit people avoiding fish, but check whether the product supplies DHA alone or both EPA and DHA.

Read the actual amounts

Compare EPA and DHA per serving, not total oil weight. Review the capsule ingredients too if avoiding animal-derived ingredients.

What evidence transfers?

A cardiovascular trial of one preparation is not a direct fish-versus-algae comparison. Our omega-3 guide shows the formulation and population for each selected trial.

A practical buying decision

Check source, testing, storage and expiry, and disclosed EPA/DHA. Prescription omega-3 medicines are a separate clinical decision.
